Daniel Marvin Cahoon, 73, of 301 Grapevine Landing, The Gum Neck Community, Columbia, N.C. died Saturday, April 18, 2009 at his home.
Born in Tyrrell County, July 2, 1935, he was the son of the late Ellis Ludford and Cattie Weatherly Cahoon. He was married to the former Audrey Mae Ainsley who survives. He was retired from the U. S. Army having served for more than twenty years and after his retirement he spent his time as a helper in his home community repairing and building as people called on him for his help. He was a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars where he had served as Commander and Chaplain and was a loyal member of Gum Neck Free Will Baptist Church where he served in a multitude of tasks.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gum Neck Free Will Baptist Church. Rev. Gerald Perry, pastor, will officiate and the eulogy will be given by his grandson, Victor J. Gordon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 55 years are three sons, Rex B. Cahoon and wife, Debbie R. and Richard B. Cahoon and wife, Tammie D. all of Hampton, VA, Daniel C. Cahoon and wife, Renee O. of Chesapeake VA; a daughter, Vickie C. Gordon and husband, Bob W. Gordon, Sr. of Asheboro, N.C.; two brothers, Charles F. Cohoon of Columbia and Ellis W. Cohoon of Hampton, VA; two sisters, Hattie Mae C. Cowell of Columbia and Beulah D. Cahoon of Fairfield; nine grand-children and two great grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorials may be directed to Community Home Care and Hospice, P. O. Box 130, Engelhard NC 27824 or Gum Neck Free Will Baptist Church, c/o Mrs. Margie Cohoon, Treasurer, 930 Reek Road, Columbia NC 27925.
The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service’s Columbia Chapel, 162 L. A. Keiser Dr., Columbia on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and other times at the home.
