Max A. Jones

Mr. Max Alfred Jones, age 81, a resident of 4542 N.C. Highway 33 East, Chocowinity, N.C., died Sunday evening, Nov. 20, 2011, at UHS-Beaufort Hospital.
A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Members of Orr Lodge #104 will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Jones was born on March 12, 1930, in Durham County, son of the late Azra Jones and Therese Kube Jones. On Jan. 18, 1953, he married the former Audrey Dixon. He worked for seven years with Mackenzie Equipment. He then began his banking career with West End Bank. Over the course of 33 years, he saw many changes as West End Branch of Bank of Washington became NCNB and currently Bank of America. He was a proud supporter of Southside High School football and softball. Mr. Jones was an avid hunter and fisherman, played the flat guitar with Buck Davis and The Country Ramblers, was a Mason, Shriner and a member of the First Baptist Church in Chocowinity. He served his country in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his wife, Audrey of the home, he is survived by his son: Max Jones Jr. and wife, Linda of Mann’s Harbor; his daughter: Therese Guard and husband, Jeff of Greenville; and his grandchildren: Caroline and Chuck Guard of Greenville.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a twin sister: Mae Jones Card.
Mr. Jones presented his wife a boxer puppy as a gift. “Bear” would obey only Mrs. Jones and it became the family joke.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
