The O’Pharrow Foundation has been active in the Washington community.

In an effort to give back to her community, Syvera O’Pharrow has again come to the aid of people who may not otherwise have the chance to enjoy a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal.

The O’Pharrow Foundation, in collaboration with the Washington Housing Authority, which provides affordable housing to low- and moderate-income families in the Washington area, has made this event possible.

The O’Pharrow Thanksgiving dinner honors senior adult residents within the Washington Housing Authority communities.

This event feeds approximately 120 senior adult residents from the communities of Westbrooke, Old Fort, Oakcrest, Eastern Village, Eastern Village Annex and East Haven.

Meals consist of turkey, ham, dressing, gravy, string beans, rolls and various desserts.

The dinner was held Saturday at two of Washington Housing Authority’s locations — Eastern Village, located at 809 Pennsylvania Ave., and at the East Haven Senior high-rise building located at 407 East Third St.

Volunteers from East Carolina University, the local community, and WHA staff worked alongside Syvera O’Pharrow to provide WHA’s senior adult residents the chance to come fellowship with other seniors, as well as O’Pharrow and the volunteers.

In an effort to extend this event to all of WHA’s senior adult residents, the two agencies planed to deliver plates to those adult seniors who were sick, disabled or homebound.

“In these hard economic times, WHA is proud to partner with a foundation, such as The O’Pharrow Foundation, who understands the needs of the population we serve, during this holiday time”, said Marc Recko, chief executive officer of Washington Housing Authority and Mid-East Regional Housing Authority.
