Mrs. Margaret Smallwood-Judge

Mrs. Margaret Smallwood-Judge, 77, died Sat., 07-11-09, at Britthaven of Washington.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. from the Metropolitan A.M.E. Z. Church with the Rev. Lynn Bolden officiating. Burial will follow at the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington.
Mrs. Smallwood-Judge was the daughter of the late Simon and Rosetta Smallwood.
She attended and graduated as valedictorian from P.S. Jones High, of Washington, N.C. During this time she was a member of the Cherry Run A.M.E. Church, also in Washington, N.C. For further education, she attended North Carolina Central College in Durham, N.C.
Margaret had one son who preceded her in death, Anthony “Tony” Smallwood-Judge.
She later relocated to Brooklyn, N.Y., where she met David Judge and they were married on September 14, 1957.
While living in Brooklyn, she was a faithful member of “The Pilgrim Church” under the leadership of Bishop Roy E. Brown. For many years Margaret was employed by the Manufacture Hanover Trust bank. She retired in 1989.
Upon retiring she relocated back to Washington, N.C., where she once again became a member of the Cherry Run A.M.E. Zion Church. She served on the kitchen committee, Steward Board, Deaconess Board, Life Council President, Assistant Secretary, Home Mission Worker, and was Sunday School Teacher. She diligently volunteered at “Eagle Wings” as an active member of the Board of Directors and served in any other way she could.
She leaves to cherish in her memories her grandson Kyle Judge, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one daughter-in-law Giovona, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Arnecia Hardison and Rosie Boyd both of Suffolk, Virginia and a very special nephew James “Gunn” Smallwood of Brooklyn, N.Y., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family is receiving friends at the home of her niece, Mrs. Margaret “Diane” Lee.
