The Beaufort County Traditional Music Association, along with the Turnage Theater, will continue its Pamlico Opry summer series of concerts Saturday with The Malpass Brothers.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for young people age 12 and under.
This concert is the Malpass Brothers’ first show since ending their tour this summer opening for country music legend Merle Haggard. The Malpass Brothers are natives of Goldsboro and have a strong fan base throughout eastern North Carolina. They are working on a new album, which expected to be released on HAG Records later this year.
Christopher Malpass was simply born in the wrong era. In his early 20s, he croons the tunes of great, late singers such as Hank Williams Sr., Lefty Frizzell, Ernest Tubb and Johnny Cash.
Taylor Malpass, a teenager, provides novel musicianship for the group. He sports a Gibson mandolin on most of the group songs, but also thrills the audience with electric guitar licks in the styles similar to his heroes Billy Byrd (guitarist for Ernest Tubb) and Paul Yandell (guitarist for the Louvin Brothers).
Their father, Chris Malpass, on the upright bass, and Dennis Daniels, on the snare drum, will join the brothers onstage. Opening for the Malpass Brothers will be Kristen McRoy and Root 33. Mac McRoy will be emcee.
