Frances Warren Williams

Mrs. Frances Warren Williams, age 70, a resident of 600 West Second St., Washington, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at UHS-Beaufort Hospital.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Oakdale Cemetery.

Frances, known as Fran to her friends and family, was born on March 6, 1941, in Pitt County. She was the daughter of the late Albert Thomas Warren Jr. and Irma Cherry Warren. Fran was a graduate of Washington High School and received her Associates Degree in Business from Beaufort County Community College.

On Nov. 5, 1957, Fran began her career at WITN–TV that continued for 47 years and eight months until her retirement in July of 2005. She began as an accounts receivable clerk and was eventually promoted to Vice President of Administration, the position she held until her retirement.

Fran enjoyed many things during her life. Beginning in 1957, with her first set of RCA dog salt-and-pepper shakers, she collected several thousand sets over her lifetime. She was a diehard Tarheel basketball fan and rocked the team to many a victory. Fran also spent many fall days picking up pecans and shelling them to share with family and friends.

Surviving along with her husband, Gary, are two daughters, Lisa Williams Baker and her husband Brent of Washington and Mary Frances Wilkinson and her husband Keenan of Aurora; three grandsons, Hunter Bennett, Riley Callahan, and Colin Callahan; and a brother, James Warren of Washington. She was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas H. Warren, and one sister, Jo Ann Banks.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home.
