Mervin N. Hancock Sr.

Mervin N. Hancock Sr., 90, a resident of Atlantic, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at home. Mr. Hancock was born in Harkers Island to Levi and Lillian Guthrie Hancock. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Atlantic United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Thick presiding. Burial will follow at Over the Brook Cemetery.
In addition to his wife, Thelma H. Hancock of Atlantic, Mr. Hancock is survived by a son, Mervin North Hancock Jr. and wife Libby of Greenville; a stepdaughter, Jeannie Yount and husband Michael of Washington; a stepson, Don B. Hall and wife Judy of Wilmington; step-grandchildren, Amy Yount Adams of Washington, Jim Swinson of Chocowinity, Mike Swinson of Indianapolis, Ind., and Charles Swinson of Greenville; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, his first wife, Nellie Guthrie Hancock, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
