Lisa Woolard (left), representing Washington (noon) Rotary, presents approximately 250 copies of the children’s book “Llama, Llama Red Pajama” to Kathie McDonald (right) of Washington Pediatrics for their “Reach Out and Read” program through which approximately 6,000 books are distributed annually to local children after their wellness checks. Also pictured are first recipients Luis James Rosas Burgos and his mother Carmen Salazar. The books were purchased under a Rotary-funded grant which enabled 16 Washington (noon) Rotarians to read to 712 local children at multiple daycare/preschool locations throughout the Washington area as part of national “Read for the Record” program. On the same day, over 2 million children were read to nationwide. The books were left behind for the children’s continued enjoyment.
