It will be a relatively quiet night for area football teams as only five teams are scheduled to play.
The Washington Pam Pack, Southside Seahawks and Northside Panthers are all off tonight. Also having a bye week are the Williamston Tigers and Creswell Tigers.
Plymouth and Roanoke, both of the Four Rivers Conference, and Tideland Conference squads Jamesville, Columbia and Mattamuskeet will be hitting the field this evening.
The Plymouth Vikings (2-1) will look for their third straight win as they play host to Northampton-West. The Hurricanes (2-1), who play in the Tar-Roanoke Conference, are also looking for their third consecutive victory.
Ronnell Blount leads the Plymouth ground game with 347 yards rushing and four scores. Dylan Watts has rushed for over 200 yards, while quarterback Kevin Purkett has scored at least one touchdown in each game.
Plymouth, off next week, opens Four Rivers Conference play Sept. 25 at Northside.
The Roanoke Redskins (0-2) are looking for their first win of the season. They’ll look to get it at home tonight against the Gates County Red Barons (1-2), a Tar-Roanoke Conference member that picked up their first victory last week with a 31-18 nod over Perquimans.
Roanoke plays host to Four Rivers Conference rival Northside next week.
The Jamesville Bullets (0-1) will be looking to square their record when they play host to the Columbia Wildcats (1-0) this evening. It will be Jamesville’s first game since Aug. 28.
Columbia is coming off a 28-0 win over Cape Hatteras in its first action of the season, coming last week.
Jamesville travels to Mattamuskeet next week, while Columbia welcomes Southside into town.
The Mattamuskeet Lakers (0-0) are scheduled to play their first game of the season tonight when they pay a visit to Cape Hatteras. The Hurricanes (0-2) have been outscored 104-0 in their first two games of the year.
The five teams with byes this Friday night will be back in action next week. The Washington Pam Pack (2-1) travels to Goldsboro (2-1). The Cougars, winners of two straight, play host to Charles B. Aycock this evening. Washington returns home Sept. 25 to face Jacksonville in the Coastal Conference opener. It will be Walk of Fame night for the Pack.
The Northside Panthers (1-2) play at conference rival Roanoke next week.
Undefeated Williamston (3-0) plays at North Pitt next Friday night.
Creswell (2-0) returns to action next week when it plays host to Cape Hatteras.
The Southside Seahawks (1-2) pay a visit to Columbia next week. Two Seahawks, Terrill Moore and Teon Aaron, were recently honored as Red Zone Players of the Week.
The Red Zone Player of the Year program is designed to recognize varsity high school football players showing outstanding athletic performance, strong leadership, and the will to win in the Red Zone. These players are selected on their ability to elevate their own game, as well as the game of their teammates. Every week, one player is selected as the Red Zone Player of the Week at each participating high school. At the end of the season, one player from each school will be nominated to represent their team for possible selection as a national finalist. From these local nominations, the Red Zone Player of the Year Awards Committee will select 50 finalists to be announced in USA Today in February to coincide with national letter of intent signing day.
