Getting some revenge in the process, the Southside Lady Seahawks picked up a big four-game win over Camden in Tuesday’s prep volleyball action. Southside earned a 25-12, 16-25, 25-20, 25-16 win over the Bruins in the Four Rivers Conference tilt.
Each Southside (11-5, 4-4) player seemed to contribute to the win.
“We played the best we’ve played all year,” Southside coach Elizabeth Pruden said. “Everybody played together tonight and stayed focused.”
Kristen Ayers had her usual solid all-around game, finishing with 12 service points, eight assists and seven digs. Atyana Starkie finished with 12 points, eight kills and six blocks. Nikki Hodges was also strong at the net as she had 12 kills and six blocks.
Caitlin Bogart finished with 12 points and six assists, while Jessica Taylor and Valerie Ruffin added nine points apiece. Danyelle Jedlicka and Becky Poole each tallied seven digs.
Southside plays at Manteo on Thursday.
Panthers cruise
The Northside Panthers made quick work of the Plymouth Vikings, cruising to a 25-20, 25-14, 25-2 Four Rivers Conference volleyball victory.
Freshman Jordan Woolard had the hot hand at the service line, finishing with 21 points, including 17 straight in the third game, and 10 aces.
Savanna Boyd had 14 points, while Whitney Lewis added six points and a team-high five kills.
“We switched rotations and it worked for us,” Northside coach Tami Wagaman said. “The girls played together.
“My freshman, Jordan, served really well for us.”
The Panthers (7-6, 4-4) play host to Perquimans on Thursday.
Tigers take a tumble
The Williamston volleyball team fell to Manteo in five sets losing 11-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23, 15-10.
Katie Paschal smashed 12 kills in the loss, while tallying six service points for the Tigers (12-2, 6-2). Harris Shepherd and Heather Jackson led the team with 10 service points each.
The Tigers’ JV team also lost, as it fell 25-22, 25-14. The defeat was the Williamston’s first of the year, and lowered its record to 12-1 (6-1). Deja Moore led the team with three service points.
The Tigers will be back in action on Thursday when it plays at Camden.
Knights knock off Raiders
Terra Ceia topped fellow Tarheel Independent Conference rival Pungo 25-10, 15-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-8 on Tuesday.
Tess Smithwick and Ally Gibbs led Pungo with 12 service points, while Jordan Dunbar had 11.
The Raiders will be back in action on Thursday when they play at Ridgecroft.
TENNIS
Washington wins again
The Washington girls tennis team remained unbeaten following a 9-0 win over Havelock in Tuesday’s Coastal Conference play.
The Pack (13-0) was coming off a 9-0 win over Jacksonville on Monday.
Washington hosts White Oak on Thursday.

Terra Ceia soccer wins
Austin Van Vuren tallied two goals to help lead the Terra Ceia Knights to a 5-1 win over the Pungo Raiders in Tuesday’s Tarheel Independent Conference soccer action.
Andrew Darkow, Andy Bowen and Thaddeus Van Essendelft also scored for the Knights.
Terra Ceia (7-4) plays host to Gramercy on Friday.
