James Michael Harris II, age 29, a native of Beaufort County and resident of Norfolk, Va., died Thursday, October 1, 2009 as a result of injuries received in a motorcycle accident.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2009 at Davis Cemetery, Pungo Community, Pantego, conducted by Thelbert Leggett.
Michael was born in Beaufort County on March 15, 1980. He was the son of Shirley Mangum Mayo and the late James Michael Harris. Michael was a graduate of Washington High School. After high school, he joined the Navy. Michael had served one tour in Bahrain and two tours in Iraq. He had just re-enlisted and planned to make the Navy a career. Known as Country by his shipmates, Michael loved water sports, especially skiing and fishing.
Michael was married to the former Tiffany Cohen, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Skylar Roy Eugene Harris of Norfolk; a daughter, Kyra Faye Eugenia Harris of Norfolk, Va.; step daughter, Haley Cohen of Norfolk; his mother and stepfather, Shirley and Lavern Mayo of Chocowinity; his sister, Lauren Toler of Chocowinity; his paternal grandfather, Leonard Harris of Pantego; his maternal grandmother, Edith Mangum of Lillington; his uncles, Robert Mangum and his wife, Lisa, Donald Mangum and Calvin Mangum, Jr. all of Lillington; aunt and uncle, Corry and Walter Harris; cousins, Walter Harris, Jr. and wife, Lisa and children, Carl Harris and wife, Marsha and children, Darryl Harris and wife, Lot and children and several nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, James Michael Harris.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home of his parents, Shirley and Lavern Mayo, 3467 Hwy 17 South, Chocowinity.
