Kathleen Midyette Flowers, 82, of 285 Sladesville Road, Scranton, died Sunday, February 4, 2007, at Beaufort County Hospital.
Born in Hyde County, March 26, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John Samuel and Ludie Mason Midyette. She was married in 1948 to Travis W. Flowers, who served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a Japanese POW in the Phillipines. He preceded her in death in 1988. She was a former clerk at the former R. G. Richards Store in Sladesville and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church where she was also active in the Baptist Women’s Group.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Jonathan Witt, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra F. Sawyer and her husband, Harry, of Sladesville; two special adopted daughters, Leah Gibbs and her husband, Ray of Scranton and Carolyn Hopkins and her husband, Murphy of Pamlico Beach; a sister, Connie M. Cuthrell of Washington; two grandchildren, Anthony R. Sawyer of Sladesville and Staci A. Sawyer of Raleigh; her very dear friend Mrs. Myrtle Sawyer and the Harry Sawyer Family.
She was also preceded in death by two infant grandchildren; two sisters, Carmen M. Swindell and Cora M. Whitehurst; four brothers, Cyril Midyette, Floyd Midyette, Bill Midyette and Vernon Midyette.
The family suggests that memorials be addressed to Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church, c/o Judy Midyette, 1305 Beulah Road, Scranton NC 27875.
The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter on Monday evening, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.
