Mrs. Annie Ruth Buck Hill, age 75, a resident of 304 Warren Ave., Chocowinity, died Monday, October 19, 2009 at her home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and will be conducted by Rev. Roger Tripp and Rev. Henry Horne. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Mike Buck, Joe Carraway, Joe Wantor, Bryan Evans, Ray Potter and Glen Buck will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Nelson, Douglas Branch, George Branch, Jimmy Harris, J.D. Edwards and Rusty Carrow.
Mrs. Hill was born in Pitt County on October 16, 1934 to the late Burley Buck and Annie Carrow Buck. She was married to William Delma Hill of Beaufort County in 1968 he preceded her in death in 1980. She was also married to George Buck of Vanceboro in 1996 he preceded her in death in 1999. Mrs. Hill served in the Registrar’s office of East Carolina University for 30 years, retiring in 1993. She was an active member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, and a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School class, serving as treasurer for several years. She was also active in the church’s Women Active for Christ group as well as the Serving Senior Saints ministry.
She is survived by her daughter, Shelia Hill Edwards and her husband John of Chocowinity and their sons Jacob and Jameson Edwards. She is also survived by her son, William D. (Bill) Hill and his wife Gayle of Raleigh, NC, and their children, Kerrie Hill of Raleigh and Bryan Hill of Asheville, NC, and a great grandson, Cade. She is survived by her step-son; Glen Buck and his wife Wanda of Vanceboro and their three children, Amy Rogers of New Bern, Steven Edmundson of Vanceboro and Amanda Hyder of Vanceboro. She is also survived by several siblings, Evelyn Toth of Michigan, Lou Velen Wantor of Greenville, Leo Buck and his wife Cassie Lee of Ayden, NC, Shelva Jean Wiggins and her husband Mayhue of Chocowinity, NC and Carolyn Gaskins and her husband Bud of Greenville, NC. She was preceded in death by her brother J.C. Buck of Greenville; an unborn grandson, her son J.R. Hill and her nephew, Dennis Buck.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home.
