Mr. Richard Creston Hughes, age 75, a resident of 224 South 6th Street, Aurora, NC died Thursday November 5, 2009 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday November 8, 2009 at Edward Christian Church officiated by Pastor David Linton. Burial will be at Holy Hill Memorial Park in Baltimore, MD.
Mr. Richard was born in Baltimore, MD on September 10, 1934 son of the late Creston E. Hughes and the late Anna Diegelman Hughes. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Richard married the former Nancy Alene Matthews on January 23, 1959 who preceded him in death on August 19, 2009. He was a supervisor with Bethlehem Steel Company in Baltimore and retired in the 1980’s. In 1994, he and his wife moved to Aurora. Mr. Richard was a member of VFW Post 6506, American Legion Post 0038, Edgemere Moose Lodge # 537 all in Baltimore and Edward Christian Church.
Mr. Richard is survived by a daughter: Mary Ann Bailey and her husband Wayne of Greenville; two sisters: Ann Akers and Janice Luczak both of Baltimore; three grandchildren: Michael Litz of Middleburg, FL, Steven Riemer and JoAnne Riemer both of Baltimore and four great grandchildren. Mr. Richard was preceded in death by a sister Teresa Landfeld.
The family will receive friends Sunday 3 p.m. until the funeral hour at Edward Christian Church.
