Panthers upset bid falls short|PCS/Northside hoops tourney to start tonight

Northside’s bid at upsetting No. 2 seed Creswell in the first round of the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs fell short as the 15th-seeded Panthers fell 30-29 on Monday.
The win improves Creswell’s record to a perfect 11-0 as it advances to the second round to play No. 7 North Edgecombe (7-4). The Panthers concluded the season with a 3-9 record.
Vikings disarm Bullets
Plymouth rolled into the second round of the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs as the No. 9-seeded Vikings topped No. 8 Jamesville 37-6 on Saturday. Plymouth (8-4) advances to take on No. 1-seeded Manteo (12-0) on the road Friday. The Bullets wrapped up the 2009 season with a 5-5 record.
Manteo runs past Mattamuskeet
Mattamuskeet was no match for Manteo as the 16th-seeded Lakers fell 63-0 to the NCHSAA 1-A East No. 1 seed. The Lakers ended the season with a 1-9 record.
Roanoke falls short against Weldon
The Roanoke football team lost a close one on Friday as the underdog Redskins fell 28-20 to Weldon on the road in the first round of the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs.
The 14th-seeded Redskins finished the season with 3-9, while the No. 3-seeded
Chargers improved to 10-1.
Columbia gets knocked out
Columbia got bumped out of the 1-A playoffs as it fell 40-7 to No. 7 North Edgecombe (7-4) on Saturday. Columbia, a 10 seed, ended the season with a 5-5 record.
PCS/Northside Tip-Off tourney set
