GRIMESLAND Mr. Lewis Elmore Hodges, 82, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Hodges, a lifelong resident of Grimesland, was the son of Eddie and Maggie Hodges. He farmed for numerous years and had worked as a magistrate in Pitt County for 37 years, retiring in October, 2007.
Mr. Hodges was a longtime and active member of Proctor Memorial Christian Church where he had served as an Elder, Deacon, Trustee and choir member.
He was a member of Grimesland Masonic Lodge #475 and a charter member of the Grimesland Fire Department. The Governor of North Carolina awarded him with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in May, 2008.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Joe Hodges.
He is survived by his: wife of 62 years, Ruby Galloway Hodges; sons, Kyle Hodges and wife, Betsy, of Grimesland and Kim Hodges and wife, Lynn, of Greenville; grandchildren, Elizabeth Hodges Perkins and husband, Rusty, of Richmond, VA, Millee Hodges Massey, of Raleigh, Kelly Hodges and wife, Leigh Ann, of Wilmington, Kevin Hodges, of Wilmington, and Scott Hodges, of Greenville; great-grandson, Walker Perkins, of Richmond, VA; sisters, Magalene H. Arnold of Washington and Eleanor H. Farr of Grimesland; and sister in-law, JoAnne Ellington and husband, Bill, of Greenville.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
