Mr. James M. Phelps, 75, of 1134 Spruill Bridge Rd., Creswell, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark AME Zion Church with Rev. Jay McNair officiating. Burial will follow in Rhodes family cemetery.
Mr. Phelps was born on Sept. 25, 1934 in Washington County. He was the son of the late Elnora Phelps. He was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church and was employed as a logger.
Survivors include his sons: James Broderick Phelps, Creswell, Shelton Ray Coger, Indian Head, MD; two daughters: Shirley D. Phelps and Tiffany Phelps, both of Creswell; brother: William Issac Phelps, Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 7-8 p.m. at St. Mark AME Zion Church and other times at the home of his daughter, Shirley D. Phelps, 106 Burris Rd., Creswell.
