Mr. Jimmie LaFayette Smith, age 72, a resident of 34640 US 264 East in Belhaven died on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven and will be officiated by Scott Askew. Burial will follow in Smithton Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born in Beaufort County on October 2, 1937 to the late Clemon and Margorie Smith. He married the former Jannie Cutler on January 10, 1960. Jimmie was employed as a tugboat engineer for many years.
In addition to his wife Jannie, survivors include one son: Joey Smith and his wife Beverley of Pungo Creek; two granddaughters: Jenna Elizabeth Smith and Bethany Grace Smith both of Pungo Creek; and two sisters: Sally Winstead of Washington state and Vonnie Tinker of Smithton. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his sister Thelma Tinker and his brother C. W. Smith.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven.
