Mrs. Ruth Sheppard Baker, age 82, a resident of 513 Telfair Street, Washington died Wednesday evening December 23, 2009 at Britthaven of Washington.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Sunday December 27, 2009 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Washington officiated by Pastor Jerry Waters and Pastor Scott Setzer. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Frank Sheppard, Carmine Sarno, J.T. Sheppard, James Lester Woolard, Neil Woolard and Kris Sauls will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Baker was born in Beaufort County on September 29, 1927, daughter of the late James Evans Sheppard and Katie Cox Sheppard. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Washington and volunteered with various charity organizations.
She is survived by her children: Joann Curlings, Joyce Barr and Edward E. Dixon all of Washington and Eva Smith of Blounts Creek; her brother: Ottis G. Sheppard of Ocala, FL; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband and father of her children: Edward S. Dixon; her daughter: Linda Asby, her sisters: Daisy Ormond, Elsie Alligood and Margie Woolard; and her brothers: Jatha Sheppard, Bonner Sheppard and Leroy Sheppard.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday December 26, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home of her daughter, Joann Curlings located at 1313 Cherry Run Road, Washington.
