MEMPHIS, Tenn. East Carolina redshirt freshman defensive back Leonard Paulk and junior running back Jonathan Williams have been suspended indefinitely from the football program for a violation of team policy and will miss todays AutoZone Liberty Bowl contest against Arkansas according to an announcement from head coach Skip Holtz Friday afternoon.
Our priorities to keep and protect our core values will always remain a constant, Holtz said. The long-term welfare of our university, athletics department, football program and players are our top concern. With that said, it is my hope something positive can come from this.
Paulk has played in all 13 games this season as a reserve cornerback and member of the Pirates various special teams squads, where he rates as of one of the units top tacklers with 10 stops. In all, he has been credited with 15 tackles, which includes seven solo hits.
Williams has rushed for 38 yards on 14 carries in a limited role (six games) after suffering a knee injury in early October.
At this point, it would be premature to discuss any further action or possible off-season ramifications regarding this team issue, Holtz added.
