Peter John Torra, age 77, a resident of Swanquarter, died on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at Cross Creek Health Care Center after an extended illness. Born in Pittsfield, Mass on Dec. 27, 1934, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose Torra. He served in the U. S. Marines during the Korean Conflict and spent his working years as a building contractor.

Surviving are his partner, Judy F. Aycock of Swanquarter; a daughter, Donna L. Rhode of Cary; three sons, Stephen J. Torra of Brazil, Ind., Peter J. Torra Jr. of Pittsfield, Mass., and William B. Austin of Swanquarter; a sister, Josephine T. Monterosso of Pittsfield, Mass.; and nine grandchildren.
