Mr. Garth Filmore Waters, age 81, a resident of 135 Portside Drive, Chocowinity, died Friday, January 08, 2010 at University Health Systems Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2010 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, conducted by Pastor Phillip Jethro. Interment will be private.
Mr. Waters was born in Pinetown on May 5, 1928. He was the son of the late P.F. Waters and Katie Boyd Waters. Mr. Waters served four years in the U.S. Navy and then 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a rural mail carrier for 17 years, retiring in 1990. Mr. Waters was a former member of the Old Ford Volunteer Fire Department. He attended the First Baptist Church in Chocowinity.
On October 3, 1995, Mr. Waters married Christine Purser, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are three step sons, Michael Travis Purser of Wilmar, Charles Barry Purser of Chocowinity, William Fate Elks Purser of Whispering Pines; a sister, Jacqueline Waters of Richmond, Va.; a brother, Troy Bond Waters of Pinetown; six step grandchildren, Jason Lee Purser, Charles Brandon Purser, Brent Purser, Alexander “Alex” Purser, Chandler Reed Purser, Malory Purser; two very dear step great grandchildren, Brandon Lee Purser and Mason Cole Purser; and mother in law, Beadie Meeks of Ayden.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Waters was preceded in death by his brother, Colbert Dean Waters.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home, 135 Portside Drive, Chocowinity.
