The Hotel Louise and the Belk building downtown, neither one needs to be turned into a housing development for seniors. Last time there were senior citizens in Washington, every time you had Music in the Streets and the Summer Festival, they got bent out of shape because of the noise. Washington needs to do a whole lot of work in revitalizing the infrastructure downtown. I would start first by bulldozing the Hotel Louise and the Belk building. They’re structurally not sound and should be demolished. The last thing we need is senior citizens downtown at the Hotel Louise. It’s the only place for our young people to go, and the only place where the city actually has some activity going on in it. Could you imagine Music in the Streets with a 100 old people hanging out the windows telling people to shut up?

 

What’s up with people driving on Old Blount’s Creek Road at 40 and 45 when the speed limit is 55? I don’t mean to pick on Cypress Landing, but most of them turn there. … We encounter these slow drivers every time we are on this road. Please, pick up to the speed limit.

 

All good workers like and expect to be rewarded for years of experience with pay increases, even teachers.

 

How can teachers encourage the young people they teach to become teachers when they will be stuck for years without pay raises?

 

The town of Belhaven was saving money. They were riding three to a car. That means they were saving gas in two cars and the wear and tear on two cars. That all equals savings. Go with the flow.
