The Southside girls basketball team cruised past Four Rivers Conference rival Roanoke on Wednesday winning 58-45.
The Seahawks managed to get 10 players in the scoring column as they improved their record to 11-2.
Quanika Thomas led the charge as she scored a team-high 15 points for Southside. Courtney Avery also reached the double-digit mark in scoring as she tallied 11 points.
Katisha Hyman added four points for the Seahawks, while Chante Painter chipped in six.
The Redskins were guided by Emoni Jones who scored a game-high 29 points.
Southside got off to a hot start as it managed to build a 15-point lead in the second quarter and held on to it for a majority of the game.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Friday when they play at Northside.
Southside boys win
double- OT thriller
The Southside boys team legged out a 97-95 double-overtime victory against Roanoke on Wednesday to improve to 6-8 (2-4) on the year.
The Redskins gave the Seahawks some help as they got called for a technical late in the second overtime for calling a timeout when the team had none left.
Southsides Willie Ruffin went to the free throw line and hit one of his two shots to take a 96-95 lead.
Roanoke fouled on the ensuing possession and put Lonnie Williams on the line, where he also went 1-2 to close the game at 97-95.
Ruffin poured in 37 points to lead the Seahawks in a high scoring affair, while Jordan Benston added 20 points. Kendrick Reddick and Williams each chipped in 11.
Southside will be back in action on Friday when it plays at Northside.
Paschal keeps the
Tigers perfect
Williamston star guard Katie Paschal erupted for a career-high 49 points on Wednesday to lead the Tigers to a 74-63 win over North Pitt.
The win improved Williamstons record to a perfect 13-0 on the season as the 1-A Tigers were able to pull out a victory over the 2-A Panthers.
Aside from Paschals 49-point effort, the Tigers got a strong game from Zakia Morris who added 14 points and forward Shakira Norfleet who pulled down seven rebounds.
Paschal, who will be playing for East Carolina University next season, also added six steals and seven rebounds.
With starting forward Cassie Harrell out due to a leg injury, Williamstons bench played a critical role in topping North Pitt.
The Tigers trailed most of the first half, but were able to rally late in the second quarter to take a one-point lead into halftime.
Williamston never trailed in the second half.
The Tigers will put their perfect record on the line again on Friday when they hit the road to take on Four Rivers Conference rival Roanoke.
