Nancy Swindell Baum

Nancy Swindell Baum, a resident of Chapel Hill, died peacefully Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at Chapel Hill Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born May 12, 1943, in Washington, to Elizabeth Watson Gibbs and Alton Emmett Baum and lived her early years in Nebraska, Hyde County. She was a four-year student at St. Mary’s Junior College in Raleigh and continued her studies in Chapel Hill at UNC where she was graduated in 1965. While in Chapel Hill, she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.

She is survived by her brother, Walter Baum, and wife Clare of Hyde County and Chapel Hill, two nieces, one nephew, two great-nephews and a great-niece.

The family requests no flowers and suggests that any contributions be made to the Organ Fund of St. George’s Episcopal Church, PO Box 101, Engelhard, NC 27824.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Fairfield Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Lupton, Priest in Charge, St. George’s Episcopal Church, officiating.

Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh, and Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter, are assisting the family.
