Mrs. Peggy Grissom Leggett, age 67, a resident of 319 E. 10th St., Washington, died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 25, 2012, at her home.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Church of Christ in Washington, officiated by Steve Hill and Ray West. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Leggett was born in Beaufort County on Feb. 12, 1944, the daughter of the late Samuel Linwood Grissom and Myrtie Edwards Grissom. On Aug. 6, 1964, she married Allen O. Leggett who survives. She was a member of First Church of Christ of Washington and a former member of the Esther Circle. She made the costumes for the first Living Christmas Tree presentation at First Church of Christ. She was a former member of Tranters Creek and taught Sunday School while attending there. Mrs. Leggett loved to sew, cook, garden and spend time with her grandchildren. She volunteered at the Blind Center.
In addition to her husband Allen, of the home, she is survived by her daughter, Michelle Rushton and husband Brian of Washington; her grandchildren, Allen Michael and Abigail Dawn Rushton; her sister, Patsy Grissom Davis of Chocowinity; her brother, Phillip Garry Grissom of Chocowinity; and her special uncle, Isaac Edwards of Chocowinity. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Tracy Dawn Leggett, and her sister, Polly Grissom Shortridge.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. tonight at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home, located at 319 E. 10th St., Washington.
