Belhaven bust nets drugs, cash, guns

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit disclosed that over 75 grams of cocaine, $9,497 in cash, two semi-automatic handguns, marijuana and drug packaging material were seized during a search of a Belhaven residence on Wednesday.

Carlton Deshawn Rome, 36, of 341 Lee St., Belhaven, and Ella Lawanda Williams, 35, also of 341 Lee St., Belhaven, were arrested after narcotics unit investigators and deputies from the patrol division executed a search warrant at the address.

The investigation resulting in the search warrant ran for “a couple of months,” said a representative from the narcotics unit. “We received information from confidential sources and were able to do cocaine buys from the residence.“

Both Rome and Williams were charged with level-one trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a dwelling to facilitate drug activity, possession of less than 1/2 ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Rome was also charged with possession of a firearm by felon.

Rome and Williams were both confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center – Rome, under a $100,000 secured bond; Williams, under a $70,000 secured bond.
