Mr. Manfred Duval Alligood, Sr., age 86, a resident of Washington died Friday March 12, 2010 at his home.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Monday March 15, 2010 at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Terry Alligood. Pallbearers will be Manfred D. Alligood, III, David Alligood, Thomas Alligood, William Hudnell, Michael Bowen and Frank Williams.
Mr. Alligood was born in Craven County on March 31, 1923 son of the late Will Durden Alligood and the late Bessie Curtis Alligood. He was a graduate of New Bern City Schools and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Mr. Alligood married the former Myrtle Rae Woolard in September of 1945 who survives. He always lived life to the fullest through his many careers which included being owner and operator of Bonner Street Barber Shop, a farmer and painter. Mr. Alligood’s true passions in life were family and traveling. At the drop of the hat he would take out on a road trip to anywhere which took him to destinations not only in the United States but worldwide. He was a member of Washington Masonic Lodge # 675 AF &AM, Washington Toastmasters and Wares Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving along with his wife Myrtle of the home are two sons: Manfred D. Alligood, Jr. and wife Kathy and Toby Alligood and wife Patricia all of Washington; seven grandchildren: Denise Hudnell, Stephanie Bowen, Amanda Williams, Manfred D. Alligood, III, David Alligood, Sarah Alligood and Thomas Alligood and nine great grandchildren. Mr. Alligood was preceded in death by a sister: Violet French and two brothers: William Alligood and Earl Alligood. The family will receive friends 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM Sunday March 14, 2010 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington.
