Mrs. Addie Geneva Singleton Rutledge, age 79, a resident of 1038 Old Bath Highway, Washington, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Ridgewood Manor in Washington.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington, conducted by Rev. Carolyn Pilgrim.
Mrs. Rutledge was born in Stokes, N.C. on October 27, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Robert Palmer Singleton and Addie Louvenia Griffin Singleton. Mrs. Rutledge was a homemaker, foster parent and operated a day care center out of her home. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the Women’s Society of the church, the Fannie Crosby Circle and sang in the Church Choir as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Rutledge was also a member of the “Good Time Girls Lunch Club.” She was a former member of the Beaufort County Grange.
On July 6, 1947, Mrs. Rutledge married Thomas DeWitt Rutledge, Sr., who passed away November 20, 2001.
Mrs. Rutledge is survived by her son, Thomas D. “Tommy” Rutledge, Jr. of Washington; her daughter, Lou R. Waters and husband, Jimmie of Washington; sister, Idonia Andrews of Washington; son in law, Larry Perry of Washington; 10 grandchildren, Leslie Dwyer, Allison Gay, Penny Adams, Brett Perry, Kevin Rutledge, Gilbert Rutledge, Crystal Woolard, Jimmie Waters, Jr., Shelia Bowden, Sarah Radcliff and 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Rutledge was preceded in death by a daughter, Dena Rutledge Perry and a grandson, Larry Wayne Perry.
The family received friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2010 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington.
