Onnie Burrell Boyd, age 82, a resident of 306 Tranters Creek Rd., Washington, NC, died Friday, February 10, 2012 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice of Greenville, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2012 at First Church of Christ of Washington officiated by Ray West and Steve Hill. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.  Troy Boyd, Jim Russ, Stanley Allen, Michael Boyd, Byron Jones and Keenan Woolard will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Boyd was born in Beaufort County on November 30, 1929 son of the late Robert Thurman Boyd and the late Eula Blanche Everett Boyd.  He was a 1948 graduate of Bath High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  Mr. Boyd married the former Deliah Elaine Allen on February 15, 1954 who survives.  He started his banking career in 1955 with Bank of Washington, West End Branch, and retired from Bank of America in November of 1991 with thirty six and a half years of service.  Mr. Boyd served his community as a County Commissioner from 1968 to 1970.  He was a member of First Church of Christ since 1973 where he served as a deacon, bible school superintendent, elder and financial secretary of the church.
Surviving along with Mr. Boyd’s wife Deliah of the home are two daughters: Judy B. Ferguson and husband William A. Ferguson of Kinston and Sherri B. Alligood and husband Gilbert R. Alligood, Jr of Tarboro; and four grandchildren: William A. Ferguson, Jr., Laura Katherine Ferguson, Gilbert R. Alligood, III and Kyle Everett Alligood.  Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by two brothers: Thurman T. Boyd and Acie A. Boyd and five sisters: Allie B. Tuten, Elva B. Sawyer, Emily B. Beacham, Millie B. Cutler and Dorothy V. Boyd.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
