ROBERSONVILLE — The Riverside girls basketball team wasted no time getting to work on Tuesday as they jumped out to an eight point-first quarter lead over Perquimans en route to a 64-46 victory in the second round of the Four Rivers Conference tournament at South Creek High School on Wednesday.
The win advances the top-seeded Knights (24-2) into the conference championship game on Friday where they will play the winner of the No. 2 Southside-No.3 Plymouth matchup at 6 p.m.
After getting off to a sluggish start against South Creek in the tourney opener on Monday Riverside refused to make the same mistake again and came out with much more intensity against the four-seeded Pirates (10-12).
“I thought we played much better tonight,” Riverside coach Hughes Barber said. “I thought for just about the whole game we played good defense. We rebounded well after the first half, that was probably the only thing we did poor in the first half.”
The Knights got a well-rounded effort on offense as they had 10 players enter the scoring column and four players score eight points or more.
Jo’Neka Brown led Riverside with 10 points while D’asya Wilson, Queenie Little and Dasia Moore each scored eight.
“I like it when we’re spread out like that,” Barber said.
Perquimans got a strong effort from Nae’Kara Lyon who erupted for 14 points.
