Mrs. Lola Mae Metts

Mrs. Lola Mae Phillips Metts, age 95, a resident of 154 Washington Harbour, Washington, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at Beaufort County Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Dr. Michael Price.
Mrs. Metts was born in Washington on April 13, 1915. She was the daughter of the late Fenner T. Phillips and Lola Winfield Phillips. Mrs. Metts graduated from Washington High School. She was an outstanding basketball player and was inducted in the Walk of Fame at Washington High School. She later attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Mrs. Metts worked as an accountant at Phillips-Wright Furniture Store. From 1988 through 2000, she served as Secretary-Treasurer for Phillips-Manning Furniture Co. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Washington and the Spinsters Club.
On February 24, 1952, she married Leonard Wilson Metts, who preceded her in death on January 17, 1974.
Mrs. Metts was preceded in death by three brothers, Fenner T. Phillips, William A. Phillips, James L. Phillips; four sisters, Evelyn P. Taylor, Anna P. Stoner, Marjorie P. Carson, Augusta W. Phillips and a nephew, Fenner T. Phillips III.
She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Dewey H. Taylor, Elise T. Dyer, Augusta Cole, James W. Phillips, Charles Phillips, Norman Manning, Phillip Carson and Carolyn C. Jackson.
Mrs. Metts’ family would like to thank her caregivers, Becky Deans, Debbie Thomas, and Gwen Haddock, for their love, devotion and dedication.
The family will receive friends at the home, 154 Washington Harbour, Washington.
