Watson, Frey lead Pitt to Region X Tournament|McCuller signs with Eagles

Charity Watson has had a stellar first season of college softball.
Watson, a former star at Washington High School, is a freshman pitcher with the Pitt Community Bulldogs. She helped lead the Bulldogs to the Region X regular season championship.
Watson is 27-4 with a 0.40 ERA this season. Watson has fanned 370 and walked 92 in 210 2/3 innings. She has allowed just 64 hits in 39 games.
She is second in ERA among NJCAA Division I pitchers. Her strikeout total is tops among Division I pitchers.
Watson is averaging 1.76 strikeouts per inning, which ranks second in the nation.
Watson, teammate Tiffany Frey (see below) and the rest of the Bulldogs will host the Region X Tournament beginning Friday at the Sara Law Softball Complex in Greenville. Pitt (35-10), the top seed, will face the Southeastern Community College-Stanly Community College winner at 2 p.m. Friday.
The tournament will continue Saturday and conclude Sunday.
TIFFANY FREY
Frey, a former standout at Jamesville High School, is playing at Pitt Community College.
She is hitting .243 (17 for 70) this season. One of her hits went for a triple. She has scored 19 runs and has 12 RBIs. Frey has also stolen seven bases.
NICOLE JORDAN
Nicole Jordan, a former star at Jamesville High School, is playing with the East Carolina Lady Pirates.
Jordan is hitting .227 (10 for 44) this season. The senior has one home run, three doubles, has knocked in six and scored 10 times.
Jordan will be honored Sunday, along with the rest of the seniors, when ECU plays host to Southern Miss at noon.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
TRENT WHITEHEAD
Trent Whitehead, a former star at Washington High School, is playing at East Carolina.
The junior leadoff batter is hitting .333 with one home run and 20 RBIs. Whitehead has 14 doubles among his 55 hits. The hit total is second highest on the Pirates.
Whitehead has scored 40 runs and has 10 stolen bases.
BRANDON THOMAS
Brandon Thomas, a former standout at Washington High School, is playing with the College of Albemarle Dolphins.
The freshman has made seven appearances on the mound. Thomas is 0-0 with a 10.39 ERA. He has allowed five runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking eight.

RYAN ZIMMERMAN
Ryan Zimmerman, a Washington native, is playing with the Washington Nationals.
Zimmerman, in his fifth full season with the Nationals, is hitting .326. The third baseman has clubbed two homers and knocked in 10 runs.
NFL FOOTBALL
JERAILL MCCULLER
Jeraill McCuller, a Jamesville native and former star at N.C. State, signed a free-agent deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
McCuller is a 6-6, 328-pound offensive lineman.
