PANTEGO, NC — Monique Saskia Hellendoorn Van Essendelft, MSN, CNM, 47, of 1927 Vreugdenhil Road, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 in University Health Systems Inpatient Hospice, Greenville, NC.
Monique was born in Den Briel “Brielle,” The Netherlands, and was the daughter of the late Johannes Wilhelmus Hendrik and Martha de Jonge Hellendoorn. A graduate of East Carolina University, she worked as a nurse-midwife in Beaufort, Hyde and Pitt Counties, and was a member of Covenant United Reformed Church.
Surviving are her husband of 24 years, Bernard A. Van Essendelft, Jr.; children, Laura Claire, Mariah Beth, Thaddeus and Johannes Van Essendelft, all of the home. “Our little sister” is also survived by her two sisters, Christina H. Cothren and husband William of Delmar, NY, and Marjo H. Degrande and husband Geert of Sluis, The Netherlands; her brother, Johannes W. H. Hellendoorn, Jr. and wife Tami of Black Hawk, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Covenant United Reformed Church, 24599 Hwy 264 E., Pantego, by the Rev. Calvin J. Tuininga. Burial will follow in Yeatesville Cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the church and all other times at the residence. Miller &Van Essendelft, 1125 Harvey Point Rd., Hertford, is handling arrangements.
