It’s time for Washington to return some love to Damien Wilkins.
Wilkins, a Washington native, is playing with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Instead of Wilkins holding his annual basketball camp and Fun Day, the city can help thank Wilkins for all his hard work and dedication. A dinner will be held June 19 to honor Wilkins.
A look-a-like contest will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Boys &Girls Club, located at 1089 North Bridge Street in Washington.
Contestants have a chance to be a special guest at the dinner, along with earning $100.
The dinner party will be held at the Family Life Center, located at 810 Hackney Ave. It will begin at 5 p.m.
Food will be catered by Abrams.
“We are asking the youths and community to support this great event and to show Damien some love for all that he has done,” said Anne Latham, the event coordinator. “It’s just a small and thoughtful way to say thank you.”
There will be plenty of entertainment on hand. Entertainment includes American Idol contestant E.J. Mitchell, Gospel Rapper Cappello, Generation-7 Mime, a VP Step Team and a look–a–like competition.
Door prizes will be given away, along with plenty of other exciting features.
Tickets for those 16 years and older are $15. Tickets for those 5-15 are $9. Children 4 and under eat free.
You may purchase tickets by calling Latham, event coordinator, at 252-945-4191.
You may also get tickets by stopping by the Boys &Girls Club, The City of Washington, Platinum Styles Beauty Salon, Main Attraction Beauty Salon or the Housing Authority.
