Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

Let me get this straight after reading the Saturday WDN about the new proposal on the study about the new jail. It says, I quote the Washington Daily News, “Another factor to consider is the increased cost to the county’s tax payers in the form of property tax increases for not only building the jail but the cost of operating the jail.” Our property tax for the people that’s going inside the jail — why don’t you take them 91 inmates down there and get them to build their own jail? That’s the way it was done a hundred years ago. You mean to tell me the commissioners would even fathom putting a tax on the good people and good standing of this county to house the ones that need the jail? Come on, now. We can think around this corner.

In regard to the closing of Inner Banks Urgent Care: be careful what you wish for because this is the just the beginning of many, many more changes to come for Washington and for the hospital.

Can’t the Washington Daily News do any better than reporting rape and incest with the approximate age of the victim so that child has to go to school and everybody knows what happened to them?

We don’t all have computers, and I was wondering why there can’t be a phone line put in for the reader poll?
