Mrs. Johnie Evora Windley Shaw, a resident of 116 Hodges Rd. Washington, died Friday May 28, 2010.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday May 31, 2010 at the First Free Will Baptist Church and will be conducted by Pastor Kevin Woolard. Burial will follow in Yeatesville Cemetery.
Mrs. Shaw was born in Beaufort County to the late John and Myrtle Jackson Windley and was a graduate of Bath High School. On July 11, 1940 she married D.B. Shaw who survives and was her loving husband of 70 years. Mrs. Shaw lived in the Tidewater area of Virginia for a number of years where she was active in the community serving as Boy Scout Den Mother, President of the Cotery Club, Sunday School teacher, Ladies Aid Auxillary and Ladies Aid Society. She was a former member of Pinner’s Point United Methodist Church, Green Lakes Baptist Church and Good News Baptist Church. She was member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Washington.
Survivors include her husband, D. B. Shaw of the home; one daughter, Susan L. Shaw of Chesapeake, Virginia; one son, Michael E. Shaw and wife Jean of Kingsland, Texas; one sister, Audrey W. Edmondson of Bath; six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Dallas B. Shaw; two sisters, Rosa W. Mason and Gladys W. Keech and two brothers, Aubert Windley and Alton Windley.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 12:45 pm Monday May 31, 2010 prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
