Mrs. Frances Boyd Brooks, age 79, a resident of 5593 Terra Ceia Road, Pantego, NC died Saturday May 29, 2010 at her home.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday June 1, 2010 at the Free Union Free Will Baptist Church of Pinetown officiated by Rev. Woodrow Freeze. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens of Washington. Jimmy Council, David Council, Daniel Paul, Louis Paul, Allen Cuthrell, Hollis Brooks and Jamie Council will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Brooks was born in Beaufort County on March 16, 1931 daughter of the late John Thomas Boyd and the late Martha Frances Boyd. She attended Pinetown School and Pantego High School before she married Charlie Jackson C.J. Brooks, Jr. on October 5, 1948 who survives. She was a homemaker and a member of Free Union Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Brooks touched many lives through singing with the former group The New Day Spirituals.
Surviving along with her husband C.J. Brooks of the home are four daughters: Judy Council and her husband Robbie of Belhaven, Darlene Paul and her husband Richard of Pinetown, Diana Paul and her husband Louis Wilson of Pinetown, and Glenda Cuthrell and her husband Brian of Belhaven; a son: Charlie J. Brooks, III and his wife Brenda of Pantego; two sisters: Charlotte Myers of Washington Joyce Godley of Washington; three brothers: Roy Boyd of Greenville, Clinton Boyd of Washington and Wade Boyd of Pinetown; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by a grandson: Owen Brooks; five sisters: Pearl Godley, Palestine Ange, Magdalene Sizer, Revonda Somers and Phyllis Alligood and three brothers: Ferrell Boyd, Hallas Boyd and Dallas Boyd. The family received friends Monday May 31, 2010 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Free Union Free Will Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
