From television to texting, iPhones to YouTube, there are countless distractions for teens growing up in today’s modern world. It becomes harder for adults to deliver positive messages to the next generation during their formative years.

All next week, middle- and high-school students may put aside the distractions to receive positive messages of faith during the weeklong Youth Prayer Breakfast.

Sponsored by Community Christian Events and area churches, students may take free transportation to the Beaufort County Shrine Club next to Washington High School each morning. Breakfast will be served from 6:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. daily. In between, a number of people will talk to the teens about following a faith-based course through life.

On Monday, gospel rapper Capello (Plymouth’s Brandon Biggs) will tell his story of how he decided to use his God-given abilities to spread the word of the Lord.

Professional skateboarder Mike Skeinkamp, founder of MS Skate Ministry, will share his success story Tuesday.

Former University of Alabama and Philadelphia Eagles running back Siran Stacy will be the featured speaker Wednesday.

Thursday’s speaker is Sarah Rachel Hill, a youth minister portrayed by Carrie Underwood in the movie “Soul Surfer.” Hill is flying to Washington from Hawaii for this event.

Basketball tricksters Dude Perfect will share their “Go Big” philosophy with attendees Friday.

The messages and meals are important to our youth, and we encourage their attendance at these events.
