Mr. Marvin Hodges Leggett, age 85, a resident of 6816 US Hwy. 17 North, Old Ford Community, Washington died Wednesday morning June 23, 2010 at his home.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday June 27, 2010 at Old Ford Church of Christ officiated by Eddie Bowen and Dutch TeBeest. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
Jesse Powers, Dr. Frank Sheldon, Harry Hodges, Joe Edwards, Anthony Thompson, Sammy Leggett, Pete Wade, T.J. LeBar and Michael LeBar will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Masonic Lodge #675, Big Swamp (Old Ford) Ruritan Club and the Men's Bible Class of Old Ford Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Leggett was born in Beaufort County on December 24, 1924, son of the late S. Marvin Leggett and Lillian Hodges Leggett. He served his country during World War II in the US Navy. Mr. Leggett was a farmer and retired grading and paving contractor. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Woodmen of the World, Lodge 671 and Big Swamp (Old Ford) Ruritan Club, where he held several offices. He was a member of Old Ford Church of Christ and over the years held the office of Superintendent of Bible School, Elder and Deacon, he was also on the Roanoke District Service Camp Board for many years.
On December 24, 1943, he married the former Arlene Perry who survives.
Mr. Leggett is also survived by his two daughters: Linda Leggett Twaddell and her husband, Robert of Kennesaw, GA and Lou Leggett Thompson and her husband, Gene of Muskogee, OK; his sister: Alameda Leggett Edwards of Washington; two granddaughters: Denise Larson and her husband, Tom of Winter Garden, FL and Sonya TeBeest and her husband, Dutch of Kennesaw, GA; his grandson: Anthony Thompson and his wife, Tiffany of Muskogee, OK; his five great grandchildren: T.J. LeBar, Michael LeBar, Rachel LeBar, Allison TeBeest and Joshua TeBeest; three step grandchildren, 13 step great grandchildren; his nieces: Sharon Wade and her husband, Pete and Shannon Edwards and her husband, Peter and his nephew: Joe Edwards and his wife, Marcia.
The family will receive friends 5:30-8 p.m. on Saturday at Old Ford Church of Christ Fellowship Hall and other times at the home.
