FARMVILLE Clarence Wesley Smith, age 71, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010 at home.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Church Street Chapel of the Farmville Funeral Home by Rev. John Ledford. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery in Farmville.
Mr. Smith was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and moved to Farmville in 1975 from Rockford, Illinois. He helped establish Sterling Radiator, one of the largest employers in Farmville, now known as Mestek, Inc. After leaving Sterling Radiator, he owned and operated bus stations in Farmville, Greenville, Washington, and later opened Smith's Bargain Center in Farmville. He was a member of
the First Christian Church in Farmville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rexford Smith and Francis Ryman Smith, one sister, Carol Norsten, granddaughter, Brandy Nicole Smith, and son-in-law, Tony Ray Jordan.
He is survived by his son, Michael Fred Smith and wife, Vanessa of Walstonburg; daughter, Shawn Marie Jordan of Farmville; grandsons, Wesley Ryan Jordan and wife, Kim of Tarboro, Allen Michael Smith and wife, Megan of Farmville; great granddaughter, Abigail Michelle Jordan; five brothers, Richard Smith, Roy Smith and wife, Joyce in Illinois, Chuck Smith, Larry Smith and wife, Debbie, Gary Smith; four sisters, Bernice Parson and husband, Paul, Doris Fritz, Roberta Eliason, Arlene Liddell and husband, Bob, residing in Wisconsin; numerous nieces and nephews, and a very special friend, Annie Gurganus of Farmville.
The family will receive friends at the Farmville Funeral Home Tuesday, June 29, 2010 from 6 until 8 p.m. and other times at the home of Michael and Vanessa Smith, 9163 Stantonsburg Road, Walstonburg, NC 27888.
