Mr. John Brightman “JB” Hollowell, Jr., age 80, a resident of 2119 Tunstall Swamp Rd. Aurora, died Thursday August 5, 2010.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday August 9, 2010 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and will be conducted by Rev. Wesley Taylor and Dr. Robert Cayton. Carl Cayton, Darrell Cayton, Steve Carrow, Bo Williams, Terry Casey, Sr. and Terry Casey, Jr. will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Hollowell was born in Pitt County on March 22, 1930 to the late John Brightman Hollowell, Sr. and Gatha Lee Ballinger Hollowell. On October 6, 1951 he married Barbara Christine Cayton who survives. He served three years in the United States Navy and then went on to complete his career retiring with twenty years of service in the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of the United States Coast Guard CPO club and a former member of the VFW of Aurora.
Survivors include his wife Christine Cayton Hollowell of the home; two daughters, Kathy H. Lewis and husband Malcolm of Aurora, Susan H. Carrow and husband Allen of Aurora; one son, John B. Hollowell, III of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren, Joey Lewis and wife Bridget, Amy Lewis, Eric Lewis, Christie Hardy, Lori Roberson and husband Brandon; four great grandchildren, Ronan Lewis, Morgan Lewis, Braxton Roberson, London Roberson and one brother, Jack Hollowell and wife Leslie of Creedmoor, North Carolina. Mr. Hollowell was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Hollowell and one sister, Louise Stout.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm Sunday August 8, 2010 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home.
