Charley Alford Tate, age 34, a resident of 387 Tate Road, Belhaven, died Sunday, August 8, 2010 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Hillside Funeral Service of Washington, officiated by Minister Dennis Davis. Burial will follow at Tate Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hillside Funeral Service of Washington, on Friday, August 13, 2010 from 7-9 p.m. and other times at the home.
Charley was born on October 13, 1975 in Beaufort County, son of the late Lawrence Jackson Tate Sr. and Betty Gaye Midyette Tate, who survives.
Charley was a passionate and devoted son, brother, uncle and provider for his family. He thoroughly enjoyed his home-life of cars, video games and exercise. He was one to have meaningful conversations or joke with often. He became the solid rock for his family in times of need. He worked diligently as a stocker at Wal-Mart in the pet department, challenging himself to make and break personal records. Charley was loved more than he knew, and will be greatly missed.
Along with his mother, Betty Gaye Midyette Tate, Charley is survived by four brothers, James Kent Keyzer and wife, Lila of Brunswick, GA, Lawrence Jackson Tate Jr. and wife, Tammy of Washington, NC, Merlin Samuel Tate and wife, Tamela of Washington, NC and Raleigh Birt Tate of Belhaven, NC; three nephews, Justin Kent Keyzer, Dillon Jackson Tate and Devon Owen Tate; one niece, Lacy Marie Keyzer; and one great nephew. He was preceded in death by four uncles, Lindsey, Bill, Joe Ed, and Lloyd Tate.
