Lucinda Edwards Minton at age 83, died March 20, 2012. She was born March 24, 1928 in Washington, and was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Zeno L. Edwards. She was the only sister of deceased Dr. Zeno L. Edwards Jr., also of Washington.
Lucinda was the wife of the late William (Bill) Wesley Minton Jr. of Goldsboro.
Lucinda attended the Washington City Schools; St. Mary’s Junior College and graduated from her beloved Duke University in 1950. She loved the Duke Blue Devils! Throughout her school years, she was very athletic and served as captain of several teams. She was a sister in the AD Pi Sorority and served on the Athletic Council there. She received her BA degree in Mathematics and Physical Education which led into a stellar teaching career prior to becoming a mother. She met and married Bill Minton in 1953. The Mintons lived in New Bern during their early years of marriage, moved to Raleigh for 20 years in 1970, then moved back to New Bern following retirement. Lucinda moved back to Raleigh in 2003 and lived at Springmoor over the past five years.
Throughout her married life, she was very active in social athletic and church activities around town. Lucinda loved sports of all kinds and spent many hours playing and watching events. She introduced her son, Wes to basketball, golf, tennis and all sports at a very early age. Mom was a great cheerleader!
Later in life, she took up bridge to take the place of sports activities and never missed watching the Duke basketball team on TV. She also loved Atlantic Beach, the Dunes Club, vacation spots around the state and her many, many friends everywhere.
Lucinda made her North Carolina debut with the Terpsichorean Club in 1947. She was extremely active at Garber Methodist in New Bern and Hayes Barton Methodist in Raleigh serving in Sunday school, administrative boards, garden clubs, and other activities. She greatly enjoyed the Carolina Country Club, New Bern Country Club and Dunes Club, the Assembly Dance Club, the Tuesday Bridge Club and the High Noon Book Club.
She is survived by her son, William Wesley Minton III and his wife Gina of Raleigh; grandchildren include, Ward, Barkley and Will; sister-in-law Rosemarie Edwards of Washington and niece and nephews, Zeno III, Teresa, Wilson and Seth Edwards; special niece Libbie Ward and husband David with sons David and John of Raleigh.
Lucinda and the family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Wells Edmondson, and the nurses of the Springmoor Clinic for their wonderful and sweet care, and the Hospice Nursing Staff for their loving care. Nancy Mainesmith and Norma Matthews are special caregivers that Mom loved dearly!
