Doris Alligood Ballance

Ms. Doris Alligood Ballance, 85, a resident of Lizzard Slip Rd., Washington, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at her home. A graveside celebration of her life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, officiated by the Rev. Sam Grist. Bonnie Alligood, Marty Alligood, Timmy Alligood, Todd Alligood, Allan Ray Boyd, Robert Conner, Jason Wallace and Ted Wallace will serve as pallbearers. A reception for family and friends will follow the service in the fellowship hall of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Doris was born Nov. 27, 1926, in Beaufort County, daughter of the late Huel L. Alligood and Emma Pinkham Alligood. She graduated from the Beaufort County Schools and went to work for the FBI. On May 22, 1948, she married Elton Rudolph Ballance who preceded her in death. Doris was a homemaker and loved to travel with her husband. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her sons, Rudy Lynn Ballance of Whiteville, Randy Levi Ballace of Taos, N.M., and Thomas “Tommy” Ballance of Chocowinity; her daughters, Diana Ballance Ipock and Kimberly Bowden, both of Washington; her brother, Jack Alligood of Washington; her sisters, Margaret Alligood and Betty Lou Boyd, both of Washington and Evy Carol Wallace of Pinetown, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brothers, Rupert Ray Alligood and Lewis Farrel Alligood.
