This years Pamlico River Quilters Guild quilt show is going green.
The guilds 18th quilt show Green Seams: An Earth-Friendly Quilt Show is set for Sept. 25-26 at the Washington Civic Center. The show, which is presented every two years, runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 25 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 26. Admission is $4 a person.
The show features quilts made by guild members, many of whom learned quilt-making from their mothers and grandmothers. The nonprofit guild, formed more than 25 years ago, welcomes quilters of all ages and backgrounds.
Unlike in previous show, entries in this years show will not be judged.
Some quilters were uneasy about having their quilts judged, so they elected not to participate in past shows, Louise Noga, a guild spokeswoman and show chairwoman, said in a brief interview Friday.
That would be the main change, that it will not be a judged show. Noga said. We had a vote on what we should do. The members came up with that.
In previous shows, quilts were judged in several categories, with awards made to quilters in each category.
Noga said the shows traditional Viewers Choice Award will continue with this years show, with three quilts being picked as the first-, second- and third-place quilts.
This years show will showcase small quilts made from recycled materials such as onion bags, Noga said.
Visitors to the show may expect to see quilted items ranging in size from 12 inches square to several yards square.
About 120 entries are expected this year, Noga said.
The shows categories include hand-pieced, hand-quilted, hand-appliqued, machine-pieced, machine-quilted, machine-appliqued, quilted clothing and quilted wall-hangings. Quilt-related demonstrations, bed turnings of antique quilts and a display by the American Sewing Guild are scheduled to be part of the show.
Although the show pieces are not for sale, the show includes a boutique where items such as pincushions, tea towels and precut charm squares are available.
