Haul Millis Reddick, junior died at the age of 90 on September 5, 2010 at Williamston Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
He was born on September 19, 1919 in Greensboro, NC to Haul Millis Reddick, senior and Hallie Hodgin Reddick.
He attended Guilford College in Greensboro, NC from 1939 to 1941. While there, he met Elizabeth “Betty” Warnke, whom he married on February 5, 1944. They were married for 66 years.
He worked as a civilian technician in the U.S. Navy during World War II in Boston. He and Betty returned to North Carolina to establish an Oliver farm machinery retail business in Martin County in 1946. He operated Reddick Equipment Company until 1970. He then established Reddick Fumigants, Incorporated for the sale of soil fumigation equipment and soil fumigants. He retired from the business in 1981. He continued to work as a consultant until 1992. He was also involved in a peat mining business and a strawberry business.
He was an active member of the Church of the Advent, Episcopal, where he served on the vestry and as a junior warden.
He served as scout master and helped with building sets for productions of the Martin Community Players.
He served on the board of the Eastern Carolina Vocational Center in Greenville, NC.
He and his wife Betty have established a scholarship at Guilford College in their names.
Haul is survived by his wife Betty. His surviving children include sons Haul Reddick III and his wife Mary of Kingman, Arizona; Bruce Reddick and his wife Bethylee of Williamston, NC and their children Richard and Clint of Raleigh, NC; Chuck Reddick and his wife Sue and their children Kathryn and Max of Franklin, NC; and daughter Kit Reddick of Williamston, NC. He is also survived by grandchildren Ashley Reddick and Garrett Reddick, children of son Mark Reddick, who predeceased him.
His survivors also include his brother Harold Reddick and wife Mattie Green Reddick of Youngsville, NC and their son Rick Reddick and his wife Kelly of Raleigh, NC.
A service of burial and Holy Eucharist will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the Church of the Advent (Episcopal) in Williamston, NC. Interment will be in the church columbarium following the service. The family will receive in the Parish House from 4-5 p.m. The family will also receive at 104 Edgelea Avenue, Williamston, NC.
The family requests that there be no flowers. Memorials may be given to the Haul M. and Elizabeth W. Reddick Scholarship Fund, Guilford College, 5800 West Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27410 or to the Mark Reddick Scholarship, Church of the Advent, P.O. Box 463, Williamston, NC 27892.
Haul will be remembered as an entrepreneur and for his inquisitive mind and his interest in politics.
