Mrs. Madeline Minor McCabe, 85, of 5684 Bonnerton Road, Edward, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010. Funeral services will be held 5 p.m. Sat., Sept. 11, 2010, Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Edward, N.C., with the Rev. Victor Smith, pastor, officiating, and the Rev. Cleve Bryant, eulogist. Burial, Hubbard Cemetery, Edwards.
Madeline Minor McCabe was born August 6, 1925 to the late Able and Arbell Stilley Minor of Edward, N.C. She was the fifth of twelve children; nine have preceded her in death. Madeline departed this life on September 6, 2010 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville surrounded by family and loved ones. She was a lifelong resident of Edward but during her months of failing health she lived with her devoted daughter, Theresa Adkins and husband, Dennis and their children Dennis Jr., Terri, Marcus and Tia in Greenville, North Carolina.
Madeline graduated from Beaufort County High School and was employed fifteen years at Cherry Point Air Station Base where she retired. Always a very dedicated and conscientious worker, Madeline received recognitions and commendations for her job performance. She was also a devoted homemaker who loved her family, church and community. She had a great affection for people and a willingness to work hard. Madeline, affectionately known as Mat by many, was loved and respected for her thoughtfulness, kindness and honesty. She had a genuine interest in people.
She gave her life to Christ at an early age and remained a loyal and devoted member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. She served in various capacities in the church during her many years of service. She was a member of the choir, usher board and a Mother Deaconess. In April 2008 the church recognized her as the oldest Mother Deaconess of the church.
Madeline was the beloved wife of the late William Earl McCabe Sr. for forty-three years. Seven children were born of this union. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Angela McCabe and Yunettia Godard. Cherishing her memory are two daughters: Nezettia M. Stevens (Henry) of Winterville, N.C., Theresa M. Adkins (Dennis) of Greenville, N.C., three sons: William E. McCabe Jr. (Dinnell) of Irmo, S.C., Dannie A. McCabe (Rosa Aida) of Goldsboro, N.C., and Timothy L. McCabe of Garner, N.C.; two loving sisters: Ethel Boyd of Idalia, N.C. and Lillian Bell of Edward, N.C.; sisters-in-law: Mary Moore, Beatrice Minor and Catherine Minor, all of Edward, N.C., Carrie McCabe of Blounts Creek, N.C. and Beatrice McCabe of Washington, D.C.; sixteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
