Mrs. Joyce Waters Whitehead, age 75, a resident of 6000 River Road Riverbend Apartments died Monday September 13,2010 at her home following a courageous nineteen year battle with cancer.
A memorial graveside service for Mrs. Whitehead in conjunction with a memorial graveside service for her late husband will be held 3 p.m. WednesdaySeptember 15, 2OIO at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Thelbert Leggett.
Mrs. Whitehead was born in Beaufort County on November 22, 1934 daughter of the late James L. Waters and the late Lillian Cherry Waters. She was a 1953 graduate of Washington High School and married Thurman “Jack” Whitehead, Jr. on September 26,1953 who preceded her in death on December 26,1996. Mrs. Whitehead dedicated her life to her family by being a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter: Susan W. Harrison and her husband David of Belhaven; a son: Thurman Whitehead, lll and his wife Diania of Oriental; a brother: James L. Waters, Jr. and his wife Jean of San Diego, CA; three sisters: Carolyn Waters of Wilson, Barbara Snow and her husband Edward of Washington and Sandra Wynne and her husband Kirby of Washington; two grandchildren: Dr. Zachary Harrison and his wife Brandi of Greenville and Ashley H. Lewis and her husband Tim of Winterville and two great grandchildren: Tessa Susan Lewis and Cooper Gavin Lewis. Mrs. Whitehead was preceded in death by a brother: Justin Waters.
The family will receive friends 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Wednesday September 1-5, 20IO at Paul Funeral Home of Washington.
