Clara Ruth Miller DeHoog

Mrs. Clara Ruth Miller DeHoog, age 85, a resident of Plymouth, died Friday, March 23, 2012, at Grantsbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Grantsboro.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Servant Mike Huppmann.

Born in Pamlico County, Sept. 12, 1926, the daughter of the late Luther Bertie and Cyndia Mittie Swindell Miller. She married Cornelius DeHoog, Nov. 3, 1944, in Trent, N.C., who preceded her in death Oct. 19, 1997. Mrs. DeHoog was a member of Free Union Free Will Baptist Church in Pinetown. She worked at Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven, then Beaufort County Hospital in Washington until her retirement. Clara Ruth was a homemaker, a very talented seamstress and did alterations upon request. Crocheting was a hobby she enjoyed and made numerous afghans, doilies and clothing items for family and friends.

Mrs. DeHoog is survived by a son, Cornelius (Neal) DeHoog Jr. of Pinetown; two daughters, Cyndia DeHoog Wilkins of Raleigh and Linda DeHoog Evans and husband Jerry of Clayton; two brothers, Robert Miller of Bayboro and Ellis Miller of New Bern; a sister, Kathleen Miller Robinson of Bayboro; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter on Feb. 19, 1959; three brothers, L.B Miller Jr., Ferny Miller and Jimmy Miller, and two sisters, Elizabeth Miller Hopkins and Katie Miller Ireland.
